House, 24 Allen Crescent, STAWELL - Physical Description 1
The house at 24 Allen Street, Stawell, is set on a typical allotment for the area. It is a modest front setback comprising a cottage garden of flowers and shrubs punctuated by a brick path. The front is bound by a timber picket fence approximately 1200 mm high.
The single storey, horizontal timber weatherboard, Victorian styled house is characterised by a hipped roof form, together with a hipped bullnosed verandah that projects towards the street frontage. These roof forms are clad in deep red corrugated Colorbond. An early face brick chimney with painted corbelled top adorns the roofline at one side. Narrow overhangs are features of the eaves.
An early feature of the design is the front verandah. It is supported by stop chamfered timber columns with projecting timber capitals and has a timber fretwork valance. There is an introduced concrete slab verandah floor.
Other features of the design include the central timber framed doorway with timber door and flanking timber framed double hung windows.
At the rear of the house is a skillion toilet outbuilding.
