The house at 34 Barnes Street, Stawell, has a substantial front setback characterised by open grassed areas, mature exotic trees and perimeter plantings.
The symmetrical, single storey, painted brick, Victorian styled house is characterised by a hipped roof form, together with a hipped concave verandah that projects towards the street frontage. There is also an introduction skillion addition at the rear. These roof forms are clad in painted galvanised corrugated iron. Two early rendered chimneys with projecting tops adorn the roofline. Very narrow overhangs are features of the eaves.
The symmetry of the design is accentuated by the front central round-arched door opening and the flanking timber framed double hung windows. The door opening is unusual and may have been introduced and comprises double single panelled timber doors with a timber framed fanlight above.
The front verandah is supported by introduced timber columns and is decorative with introduced timber fretwork balances and brackets.
