House, 25 Campbell Street, STAWELL - Physical Description 1
The house at 25 Campbell Street, Stawell, is set on an average sized allotment for the area and has a substantial front setback. The front is comprised of a considerable garden with numerous perimeter flower beds and shrubs. There is an introduced timber lattice lychgate within the front garden. This garden is separated from the side driveway by a timber picket fence that also continues along the front boundary. This fence is approximately 1200 mm high. This house is of identical design and construction to the neighbouring house at 27 Campbell Street.
The asymmetrical, single storey, horizontal timber weatherboard, Edwardian styled house is characterised by a recessed hipped roof form that traverses the site, together with a minor hipped roof and hipped bullnosed verandah that project towards the street frontage. These roof forms are clad in galvanised corrugated steel. Two early brick chimneys (now painted) with multi-corbelled tops adorn the roofline. Narrow overhangs are features of the eaves.
An early feature of the design is the front verandah. It is supported by turned timber columns and has an early timber fretwork arch and timber fretwork valances.
Other features of the design include the front six panelled timber door with sidelights and highlights, and the timber framed windows. The window hoods over the front and side windows with timber fretwork brackets also appear to be early.
