Statement of Significance
The house at 7 Clemes Street, Stawell has significance as a predominantly intact early 20th century house in a garden setting.
The house at 7 Clemes Street, Stawell is architecturally significant at a LOCAL level. The house demonstrates original and early design qualities of an early 20th century timber villa style. These qualities include the single storey height; intersecting hipped and gable roof forms extending to form a verandah supported on timber posts; corrugated steel roof cladding with metal finals and ridge decoration; lower walls clad in square edged weatherboards with upper areas and gable ends clad in timber strapped render; timber framed double hung windows; rendered brick chimneys with projecting mouldings. Other intact or appropriate qualities include the corrugated metal roof cladding to all roof forms and the timber garden loggia. The garden setting contributes to the significance of the place.
Overall, the house at 7 Clemes Street, Stawell is of LOCAL significance.

House, 7 Clemes Street, STAWELL - Physical Description 1
The house at 7 Clemes Street, Stawell occupies a relatively flat site with a garden setting including mature exotic trees. The diagonal entry path is marked by a timber loggia. The house has a dominant main gambrel roof form with intersecting gable roofs and extending to form a return verandah. The roof is clad in corrugated steel with decorative metal ridge capping terminating with curved metal finials at each end. The roof has moderate eaves with exposed rafter ends at the gables. The verandah returns around two sides of the house and terminates at gable roofed wings which intersect the main roof. The verandah is supported on timber posts. There is a rendered chimneys with projecting rendered mouldings. The lower walls are of square edged weatherboards with the upper walls and gable ends of timber strapped render. The house has timber double hung windows with the upper lights having timber glazing bars dividing them into 9 panes of glass.
