Shops, 90-92 Main Street, STAWELL - Physical Description 1
The Toyworld Store at 90-92 Main Street, Stawell, contributes to the architectural and visual amenity of the predominantly Victorian and interwar streetscape.
The symmetrical, single storey, rendered brick, Victorian Boom styled building is characterised by a balustraded parapet with two centrally-located broken pediments crowned with scrolled decorative motifs and with blind arches below. The parapet forms two bays with each bay flanked by rendered piers with cappings. There is a projecting dentillated stringcourse below the parapet, the whole being supported by decorative consoles.
The upper reaches of the wall plane are characterised by two incised rectangular title panels that feature the introduced "Toyworld" title, together with three pilasters with incised panels that support the consoles above. There is also an unfortunate projecting internally illuminated sign.
An introduced bullnosed verandah (clad in green corrugated Colorbond) and supported by columns with stylised capitals projects at the front. Under the verandah are two introduced metal framed shopfronts with painted wall surrounds.
Beyond the main facade are two hipped roof forms clad in galvanised corrugated steel. One hipped roof extends further than the other, and both have early face red brick wall construction. The longer hipped roof has an early doorway (with introduced door) and introduced timber stairs. The shorter hipped roof has a skillion addition and a red brick parapet wall at the side.
