Why is it significant?
Text from the 2004 heritage study:
The building at 99 Main Street, Stawell, is historically and architecturally significant at a CONTRIBUTORY level. Although the 19th century shopfront has been greatly altered, the parapeted timber gable end (behind the existing front parapet), gable roof form, galvanised corrugated iron roof cladding, gabled galvanised corrugated iron and timber lantern light and the side brick wall construction of the front section of the building are those particular elements that contribute to the historical and architectural amenity of the area. This building appears to have been first occupied by Thomas Thomas, who operated a general store. He bequeathed the business to his sister, Mrs. William Anthony, who with her children established the Anthony and Co. hardware and grocery business. Anthony and Co. still occupied the building in the 1930s.
