Shop, 164-166 Main Street, STAWELL - Physical Conditions
The building at 164-166 Main Street, Stawell, contributes to the architectural and visual amenity of the predominantly Victorian and interwar streetscape.
The symmetrical, single storey, rendered brick, modestly scaled, Victorian style building is characterised by a crowning parapet with a central dentillated pediment and dentillated stringcourse flanked by projecting blocks adorned with a vermiculation pattern and supported by elaborate consoles. Below the parapet is a four bayed ground floor composition of timber framed double hung windows and timber and glazed door openings, all with rendered architraves. The projecting awning over part of the building has been introduced.
Beyond the main facade, the rear gable roof form, face brick wall construction and parapets, and face brick chimney (but not the skillion addition at the very rear) represent early fabric.
