House - (former 'Glenariffe'), 29 Scallan Street, STAWELL - Physical Description 1
The house at 29 Scallan Street, Stawell, is set on an average sized residential allotment for the area. It has a modest front setback characterised by open grassed areas and some trees and shrubs. The front is bound by an introduced but appropriate capped timber picket fence, approximately 1200 mm high.
The single storey, rendered brick, rudimentary Victorian styled house is characterised by a simple gable roof form that traverses the site, together with a hipped concave verandah that projects towards the street frontage. These roof forms are clad in red-painted galvanised corrugated iron. Unusual early moulded timber fascias and exposed timber rafters are features of the main eaves. Three early rendered brick chimneys with corbelled tops adorn the roofline.
Other early features of the design include the bracketed timber verandah posts, window and door openings, timber framed double hung windows, and the simple quoinwork framing about the windows and doors.
