Statement of Significance
The house at 33 Scallan Street, Stawell, is historically and architecturally significant at a CONTRIBUTORY level. It is associated with residential developments in Stawell in the late 19th or early 20th century, together with the establishment of "Imbros" Private Hospital in the 1930s and 1940s by Sister Chapman. She was the daughter of Nurse Margaret Booth who had established the "St. Leonard's" Private Hospital at 27 Scallan Street in the early 20th century. This house at 33 Scallan Street demonstrates some important or appropriate design qualities. These qualities include the hipped roof forms clad in galvanised corrugated steel, narrow eaves adorned with timber brackets and panelling and paterae, horizontal timber weatherboard wall cladding, single storey height and the timber framed windows. The projecting bay at the front is a later addition.
