House, 1 Victoria Street, STAWELL - Physical Description 1
The house at 1 Victoria Street, Stawell, is set on an average sized allotment for the area, and has a considerable front setback. The front garden setting comprises an open grassed area, curving concrete pedestrian path, perimeter garden beds and some shrubs. There is no front fence.
The single storey, face brick interwar Bungalow styled house is characterised by a gable roof form that traverses the site, together with a small attic gable and broken back/skillion verandah that project towards the street frontage. These roof forms are clad in tiles. An early face brick chimney with a soldier course capping adorns the roofline. Broad overhangs with exposed timber rafters are features of the eaves.
An early feature of the design is the front verandah with its stuccoed beam. It is supported by early stuccoed brick piers (having face brick soldier course bands), and similarly constructed piers with concrete cappings that supported square columns about the inner bay. There is also a solid stuccoed brick balustrade with a concrete capping, as well as elaborate entrance steps. The ends of the verandah are also supported by large timber brackets.
Other early features of the design include the timber shingling in the attic gable end, timber framed double hung boxed windows, brick window brackets and the timber framed front doorway.
