Statement of Significance
Statement of Significance as recorded under the Queenscliff Heritage Study 2009
Wyndom is of local architectural and historical significance. Free-standing villas of this style and comprising polychromatic brickwork are unusual in Queenscliff, although not so in the metropolitan area of Melbourne. Polychrome brickwork in domestic construction within Queenscliff is confined to a few examples in localised groups, such as Thanet Terrace and the north side of Stokes Street, between Learmonth and Mercer. This is an excellent example of this style of brickwork.
The building is of significance at a local level for its association with successful builder W G Priddle, who built the house, and lived there for the last years of his life.

Wyndom, 59 Learmonth Street, Queenscliff - Physical Description 1
59 Learmonth is a polychrome brick house of asymmetrical plan with a window-bay, and a concave roofed return-verandah. The verandah is supported on cast-iron columns, fanpattern brackets, and friezes which incorporate a repeating palmette motif. The roof is slated, the eaves bracketted and the ogee-profile roof guttering intact. The entry-door has panelled side and top-lights and the main window has three lights separated by timber colonnettes. Alterations include the construction of a new brick fence where previously there probably was a timber picket fence.(6)
Wyndom, 59 Learmonth Street, Queenscliff - Physical Description 2
Extract from the 2009 study
Wyndom is a polychrome brick house with an asymmetrical plan. The front (west) elevation has a splayed bay window and a concave roofed return-verandah supported on cast-iron columns. The original fan pattern brackets and friezes, which incorporated a repeating palmette motif, have been removed in recent years. The hipped roof is slate with a brick chimney. The original bracketed eaves and ogee-profile roof guttering are intact. The entry door has panelled side and top lights and the main window has three lights separated by timber colonettes.
To the rear of the original building is a substantial extension with a hipped colorbond roof over. The present wrought iron fence replaced the brick boundary wall (described in the 1984 study). The original fence was probably a timber picket.[i]
