Christ Church Cathedral Chapter House (Duplicate) - Physical Description 1
This Cathedral was commenced to the design of Tappin Gilbert & Dennehy Architects in 1886, but by 1889 construction had ceased. Building re-commenced in 1903-04, and the chapter house was completed by 1907 to the design of Smart Tappin & Peebles.
The church is of interest for the incomplete, ambitious scheme which was never realised. .The style of the proposed edifice is transitional English Gothic with proposed nave, side aisles, transcepts, side organ chapels, choir, sanctuary and vestry. The nave was never built and the existing building represents the chapter house, upon which the nave was to be built.
This building is of interest as an incomplete dream, and provides an unusual streetscape element to the escarpment.Christ Church Cathedral Chapter House (Duplicate) - Integrity
