Statement of Significance
Statement of Significance as recorded under the Queenscliff Heritage Study 2009
No. 36 Kirk Road is of historical and architectural significance to the Borough of Queenscliffe. Historically, the property is significant for its association with early twentieth century development at Point Lonsdale, including the area's growing popularity as the location for summer houses. It also has an association with Alfred Deakin, as the first owner of the house, albeit comparatively short-lived. Architecturally, no. 36 Kirk Road appears to be both a development on the local 1900s verandah types, and a prototype for the group of gridded verandah frieze houses that appeared around 1912 and after in the area. It also appears to be largely in its original condition, albeit dilapidated.

36 Kirk Road, Point Lonsdale - Physical Description 1
Extract from the 2009 study
No. 36 Kirk Road is a single-storey weatherboard house with an elevated return verandah facing south and east, framed by projecting wings and with its roof integrated with a hipped central roof. The latter is clad in corrugated galvanised steel. The original windows are timber-framed, double-hung sashes. The verandah was later enclosed on its south side with a set of fixed panes, but in the main these have been removed, as have the majority of the latticed under croft panels.
It is difficult to see the property from the street, as it is set well back on its site. It appears to be in poor condition.
