Statement of Significance
Statement of Significance as recorded under the Queenscliff Heritage Study 2009
Werona is of historical and architectural significance to the Borough of Queenscliffe, as en early twentieth century weatherboard holiday house at Point Lonsdale. Architecturally, Werona is a conservative building for its 1880s date, and is also relatively 'pure' in terms of its Victorian design, a characteristic shared by very few Point Lonsdale buildings. It is also more broadly demonstrative of the symmetrically fronted houses in central Queenscliff, which have hipped roofs, verandahs below the main eaves, and symmetrically placed arrangements of central front doors flanked by double-hung sash windows.

Werona, 49 Point Lonsdale Road, Point Lonsdale - Physical Description 1
Extract from the 2009 study
Werona is a symmetrical house, clad in weatherboard and topped by a hipped timber roof clad in corrugated galvanised steel. Its eaves are boxed and bracketed with intermittent pairs. A single corbelled red brick chimney is visible from Admans Street. The verandah is timber framed with a lacework metal frieze, square-section timber posts and a bull-nosed roof canopy. The front door is set in a symmetrical door case, with side and toplights, in a typical 1880s manner; and the two front windows to each side are double-hung timber sashes with two panes in each sash. A bracketed individual window canopy is on the north side, strut-braced and trimmed with vertical slats. An addition on the north side, facing Admans Street, appears to date from the 1950s or later.
