Nachemo - Physical Description 1
A two storey colonnaded mansion executed in render with a hipped slate roof (now painted red in imitation of tiles). The principal elevation facing Burke Road includes a projecting hipped wing with a shallow bay attached.
Simple paired openings with half round heads and matching label moulds adorn the bay. Adjoining is the three bay colonnade, the side bays wider than the centre bay. The balustrade is executed in render and its decoration
across the facade to imply a balcony at the bay. The colonnade columns arise from balustrade piers to become short Corinthian columns on the first floor.
On the ground floor they are of grander proportions extending to the verandah level. Simple render mouldings run through the facade as string courses and additional render embellishment is provided at the eaves by paired brackets interspersed with raised panels. Four chimney stacks are prominent on the skyline. Overall the elevation is well proportioned and presents an image of restrained elegance.
A magnificent wrought iron fence on a bluestone plinth graces the front boundary and mammoth side brick walls confine the garden, defined at the front by giant piers.
