Statement of Significance
C Listed - Local Significance
STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE
A well developed and interesting Edwardian house, built in 1906. It is architecturally significant locally as a particularly intact Edwardian style house, which may have Indian Bungalow influence. Its verandah and left rear gable are of special interest for their complex decorative scheme, particularly unusual posts, capitals and vase r motifs. It gains further significance as one of 12 Edwardian houses along Aberdeen Street.
It is significant historically as a representative embodiment of the way of life in Edwardian Newtown.
Intactness: Excellent. The Chimneys have been painted. The balustrade may be an addition. The brick fence was built in about 1940 and the picket gate is not appropriate.

Residence (Formerly "Tolarno") - Physical Description 1
A complex triple fronted, late Edwardian, timber house with a hipped, roof. The left side rear bay is set forward as a gable. The upper gable projects Q with strap work, including ogee shapes. The uppermost section projects further, with the roof on elaborate ogee bracketing. It has a skillion hood on fretwork and rectangular latticed brackets. The verandah extends from here around the front, .under the main roof it has a complex valence, with rails, arched at corners, lattice, most unusual vase shaped fretwork and deep brackets on posts, which have heavily incised moulds and deep plate capitals. At the comer, a minor front facing gable with rails is set forward. Beneath, is a rectangular bay window and at right, the verandah roof recedes.
There is a diagonal latticed balustrade. A side door has fan and side lights, with a flyscreen door moulded side rails. Windows are casements with top lights. Rafters are exposed and moulded as brackets. There may be an Indian Bungalow influence.
