STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE
St Peter's Church of England Newtown is an early work of pioneer Geelong architect Joseph L. Shaw, being erected in this relatively unadorned chapel was built of regular coursed squared basalt rubble with Barrabool sandstone dressings.
The church, although one of the oldest surviving in Geelong is eclipsed for architectural importance by many other Churches designed by JL Shaw a noted and prolific ecclesiastical architect in the Geelong region.
