STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE
This timber cottage has regional historical associations with an early Newtown industry, the tanneries which operated in the vicinity from the 1850s. "Riverdale" was owned and occupied at first in 1891 by Josiah Windmill, tanner, who was a member of a well known local family of quarrymen and tanners. "Riverdale" - Physical Description 1
A double-fronted, symmetrical, timber Italianate house with a double hip in profile roof. It has a deep bullnosed hip verandah with a good cast-iron lace valence and brackets. There are decorative strips on the upper posts. There are four timber skillion hoods on windows. The chimneys contribute to the symmetry. There is a timber outbuilding.
