Residence - Physical Description 1
DESCRIPTION
The single storey timber building is clad in weatherboards and the hipped and gabled roof is clad in corrugated iron. The basic plan form with the large hipped roof and projecting gable room is similar to many late Victorian style homes. Detailing such as the cast iron verandah valance and brackets is also common on late Victorian dwellings. However, most other aspects of this building are more typical of a house built in the Edwardian period and so it is essentially a transition style house. The main Edwardian characteristics include the incorporation of the verandah roof as part of the main roof, the splayed bay window, the large tripartite window in the gabled-end, the port hole window and the front door and sidelight. Edwardian decorative elements include the gablet at the apex of the main roof and the elaborate strapwork on the tympanus of the gable and gablet. The return verandah was common in both periods.
