"Winton Lea" - Physical Description 1
The design is predominately Edwardian in character and is dominated by the large hipped roof which extends to form the roof of a returned verandah. The single storey house is clad in weatherboards. The hipped and gabled roof is clad in corrugated iron and from this rises tall, slender chimneys of face brick and stucco. The projecting gable room is accentuated by a smaller projection which has strapwork and paired long windows with a prominent hood supported by decorative brackets. The other striking aspect of the design is the superb verandah decoration. The valance and brackets are made of iron and composed of a very fine geometric design. This iron work design more closely resembles the timber fretwork of the Edwardian period than the curly and floral cast iron of the Victorian period. It may be been produced at Newberry's foundry opposite. Elaborate turned wood columns support the verandah in pairs.
