[Additional information supplied informally by the Heritage Advisor, 12 December 2016:
This building was designed by the local Geelong architect Norman Schefferle in 1928. He called tenders for a "proposed brick shop and residence, Melbourne Road, North Geelong, for Mr W. Bennett" in the Geelong Advertiser, 13 June 1928, p.9].
STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE
157,159,159A Melbourne Road has architectural significance at a local level. The building is an unusual example of a 1920s double storey brick commercial property which is substantially intact. The building retains its characteristic siting, form and details including a prominent gable at the front, a decorative gable infill panel, an assortment of windows, and1920s shop fronts

DESCRIPTION
157,159,159A Melbourne Road is an unusual double storey brick parapet building which is substantially intact. On the first floor the rendered facade features an unusual gable with a half timbered effect, roof ventilator and tripartite double hung sash window. A pair of windows with arched heads is also found, above which is a decorative shield. The brickwork is quoined down the sides of the wall to above the canopy height and also around parts of the windows. The ground floor facade consists of 1920s shopfronts with lead light and mottled glass, decorative herringbone brickwork and tiled floor entrances. The canopy is a later alteration. The east wall of the building is timber. On the south facade a window has been bricked in, and there is an entrance and also three windows with rendered lintels. The rear of the building is a corrugated iron gable which has been recently reclad. At the rear of the site is some timber sheds.
