Residence "Kallista" - Physical Description 1
It is a two storey building predominantly built of dark brick and supplemented by decorative timber. The gable roof is clad in orange-red terrace cotta tiles. The design is symmetrical except for a single storey 'sun' room on the north elevation. The upper floor consists of a strip of four double-hung attic windows either side of a projecting gable room. The gable-end has fine decorative timber detailing and window and door joinery. From the door at this level, one can walk onto the roof of a portico which projects beyond the front facade of the lower level. This is supported at the corners by pairs of slender columns. The lower floor is composed of a central recessed entrance porch with a well proportioned doorway. Either side of the door is a narrow sidelight and an arched fan light above. Two French doors with shutters open onto a brick terrace on either side of the portico. Above each of the French doors a round arched head has been formed by the use of decorative brickwork. Within this semicircle a diamond of cement render is complimented by herring-bone brickwork. The round arched window heads of the French windows are complimented by the windows of the timber 'sun' room.
It is particularly noteworthy that the design of the paths, garden, gates and fence are in harmony with the architecture of the house. They have an excellent degree of integrity and are in excellent condition.
