Lord Nelson Hotel - Physical Description 1
721 Bellerine Street is a double storey rendered brick parapet building with a high degree of integrity. It retains a 1920s facade, a stucco parapet raised in the recessed central bay on both facades, and features typical 1920s simplified classical idioms including a pediment with an entablature, large dentils and the original signage. Double hung sash windows of Victorian proportion decorate both the ground and first floor facades and have unusual mouldings to the sills on the first floor. The spandrels between floors are detailed and emphasize the gentle verticality suggested by the piers between the windows. A subtle moulded string line wraps around the facades. The rear walls of the building are red brick and the roof is a terracotta tiled hip. The building is sited on a prominent comer location and is a highly visible part of the streetscape.
