STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE
273 Bellerine Street has architectural and historic significance at a local level. The building is a representative example of an Early Victorian residence, a housing type once common in the Geelong region, and is reasonably intact. The building retains its characteristic form and details, including concave hipped verandah, timber verandah details and brick chimney. It is sited close to the footpath and forms part of the residential streetscape. It had a long association with the Digby family for a period of over seventy years.

Residence - Physical Description 1
This Early Victorian double fronted cottage has a symmetrical facade constructed of weatherboards, a simple double gable roof with a rear skillion and gable, and a recent gable and skillion extension. The roof has been reclad. The corrugated iron concave verandah is hipped in form and retains its original iron. It has simple timber posts, valance, and brackets appropriate to the style of the building and they appear to be substantially original timbers. Double hung sash windows with twelve panes are a later addition and are positioned on either side of the entrance with highlight above. The door is a later alteration. A corbelled brick chimney stands on the north side of the house. The fence at the front of the site probably dates from the 1920s. The building is sited close to the footpath, is reasonably intact and forms part of the residential streetscape. The recent rear, addition mirrors the existing form and does not detract from the cottage.
