Residence - Physical Description 1
The house at 163 Kilgour Street, Geelong, is situated on a long, narrow allotment, typical for the area. The house has a front setback of approximately 5 metres, with the front garden consisting of a central path, lawned areas and perimeter plantings. The front is bound by an introduced timber picket fence, approximately 1300 mm high. The side setbacks are very narrow, with one rear section of the house forming the side boundary. The symmetrical, single storey, horizontal weatherboard, transitional Late Victorian and rudimentary Edwardian styled house is characterised by a broad gambrel roof form clad in galvanised corrugated steel. An early unpainted red brick chimney with a multicorbelled top adorns the roofline. Wide overhangs are features of the eaves. A feature of the design is the front broken back and hipped roof form. It is supported by introduced turned timber columns with decorative introduced timber fretwork valances. The symmetrical composition of the design is accentuated by the early central timber framed doorway which is flanked by early timber framed double hung windows. Other early timber framed double hung windows are situated at the sides.
