LANDY'S DREAM MINING SITE - History
The Wealth of Nations Quartz Mining Company was registered in 1867, taking over what had been known as Lamond’s Prospecting Claim. The company’s early workings were out of two shafts about 30 yards apart, probably shafts A and B on the site plans. Operations were short-lived and in mid-
1869, the Golden Eagle Quartz Mining Company was formed to work the now-abandoned Wealth of Nations ground as well as the Thistle and Pleiades ground. They put in a long tunnel but ceased operations in 1870.
In the mid-1890s, Landy’s Dream mine was opened, profitably working a reef to the west of the Wealth of Nations reef. The company intersected the Wealth of Nations reef in 1903, 1897 feet into their main adit level. Operations had ceased by early 1904 and the plant was sold up and moved. In 1912 the Landy’s Dream mine was taken over by a syndicate and worked on a small scale until at least 1915.

Heritage Inventory Description
LANDY'S DREAM MINING SITE - Heritage Inventory Description
Updated on 11/07/2022 The site consists of two parts. The first is a cluster of open mine workings at the junction of Binns Road with a short steep track that leads to a helipad on the ridgetop above. The short steep track appears to be popular as a test for 4WDrivers. These workings date from the late 1860s. The second part is a deep open shaft or rise about 12-15m off the side of Binns Road to the south. This dates to the very early 1900s. The main Landy’s Dream mining and processing sites are a considerable distance away to the west, down on the Aberfeldy River. This site contains many artefacts and features including relics, mines, house sites, mine working, water races, foundations of aerial tram way and a large network of pack-tracks. The terrain is steep vegetation mostly open and accessible.
