Memorial Window Description & History
Stained Glass Window at Armadale Baptist Church - Memorial Window Description & History
This unusual and dramatic subject was probably chosen by the Rev. FW Boreham, author and charismatic pastor of the church. The design showed David drawing his sword to slay Goliath who is spreadeagled on the ground between his feet, an allegory of the triumph of good over evil. 49 young men from the parish enlisted, six of whom lost their lives, and members of the church donated £253 as their contribution to the window and an opus sectile Honour Roll. Both the window and Honour Roll were designed and made by Brooks, Robinson & Co.
A small item appeared among the Argus classified advertisements which announced the unveiling of a memorial window by Sir CR Brudenell White, KCMG, KCVG, GB, DSO, ADC to His Majesty the King. Sermons for the day of dedication focussed on the window: at 11 am 'The Object of the Window' and at 7 pm "The Subject of the Window', both delivered by the Rev. FW Boreham.
