Memorial Window Description & History
Stained Glass Window at Elsternwick St. Clement's Anglican Church - Memorial Window Description & History
The Reverend AE Britten announced the intention to install a stained glass soldiers' memorial in 1920, but it was not until April 1922 that the fund neared its target (£180) and plans could be made for its unveiling by Lord Stradbroke on 10 June 1922. As sometimes happened, the Faculty, the stamp of approval from the Archdiocese, was granted later the same month. In 1927, a rood screen, designed by architects Gawler & Drummond, was erected in the church as a memorial to Captain Melville Rule Hughes AAMC, who was killed at Bapaume.
