Memorial Window Description & History
Stained Glass Window at Creswick St. John's Anglican Church - Memorial Window Description & History
Late in 1920 discussion began on the installation of a Soldiers' Memorial. It was not until 1922 that stained glass artist, William Montgomery quoted 72 guineas for a window of St. George, in a similar format to the Light of the World window already installed in the church. By February 1925 when the window was finally ordered, the price quoted was reduced (and the design possibly amended accordingly) to £60 FOR Melbourne. Montgomery depicted St. George with the dragon at his feet and a victory pennant flying from his spear and incorporated the Australian Commonwealth Military Forces badge in the base panel. The window was unveiled on Anzac Day 1925. An account for £61.10.0 was issued to the Hon. Secretary, Mr. Gunning, on 17 April 1925.
