STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE
28 Mercer Street has architectural significance at a local level. It is a representative and reasonably intact example of Early Victorian commercial architecture in the Geelong region. The building retains characteristic siting, form and typical Victorian facade details. Notable features include small decorative brackets, corbelled chimneys, and the original concave verandah canopy. The ground floor shop fronts have been substantially altered.

Shop & Residence - Physical Description 1
Description
28 Mercer Street is a double storey Early Victorian brick and render building which is reasonably intact. The facade consists of typical Early Victorian window openings with projecting sills on the first floor, however the ground floor openings and facade have been replaced with a tile and glass shop front. The roof is a corrugated iron hip and has close eaves with small decorative brackets and corbelled brick chimneys. The concave canopy appears to be the original and is now attached to the facade. It may have been originally supported by posts. The signage on the building detracts from its presentation.
