STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE
36 Western Beach Road has architectural and historic significance at a local level. The building is a representative example of decorative Late Victorian housing, a type which was once common in the Geelong region, and is reasonably intact. The building retains its characteristic siting, form and Victorian Italianate details including polychromatic brickwork, fine lacework, and a faceted bay. The building forms part of the residential streetscape. The building has historical associations with the Anglican church as a vicarage for approximately thrity years.-

Residence - Physical Description 1
Description
36 Western Beach Road is substantially intact single storey Late Victorian building retaining Italianate details including elaborate polychromatic brickwork featuring banding and quoins. The facade is asymmetrical and features a project faceted bay with double hung sash windows and an unusual verandah profile featuring slender timber columns, and decorative iron lacework, above which is a timber fringe. The verandah floor has been replaced withnew timber. A recent timber conservatory extension is joined onto the north side of the building . Other details include decorative timber eaves brackets, bichromatic corbelled chimneys, slate roofing and a central entrance with four panel door, sidelights and a highlight with stained glass. On the south of the building is a side entrance. The fence at the front of the site has a bluestone plinth and is appropriate to the style of the house.
Residence - Physical Description 2
Largely intact, polychrome brick with diaper quoining & basalt plinth, hipped roof clad in slate with 2 bi-chrome brick chimneys. Faceted bay to facade, cornice to eaves (brick string course & paired timber brackets) & timber sash windows (tripartite to verandah). Return verandah with turned timber posts, cast iron frieze & dogtooth moulding to the verandah beams. Verandah to north side has been infilled. 4 panelled timber door to front with sidelights & highlight (with margin panes).
