Statement of Significance
Groves' Cottage (former) is located on the north side of Watton Street beyond the intersection with Hutton Street on the western side of the township of Penshurst. The cottage is a small, symmetrical four roomed residence, with two large chimneys suggesting the presence of timber extensions which have since been lost. The roof is covered in corrugated iron sheets, which cover wooden shingles. The exact date of construction is not known, but it appears to date from about the 1870s. The cottage is in poor condition but retains an excellent degree of integrity.

GROVES' COTTAGE (FORMER) - Physical Conditions
The building is in very poor condition.
GROVES' COTTAGE (FORMER) - Physical Description 1
A small four roomed symmetrical bluestone house. The windows are 12 pane double hung sashes. The hipped roof is covered with corrugated iron, but partially removed to reveal timber shingles. There may have been extensions in timber to the rear but these are now collapsed or missing. There seems never to have been a verandah.
The cottage is sited close to the Watton Street boundary and faces south towards the stoney rises associated with the Cheviot Hills estate.GROVES' COTTAGE (FORMER) - Historical Australian Themes
