Statement of Significance
The iron picket fence is on the south side of Parker Street, the Glenelg Highway, between Dunlop and Sterling Streets. The gatepost piers are carved from Grampians sandstone and the gates and railing are formed in wrought iron with cast iron finials. The gates are concave at the top to accommodate the height of the piers. The cast iron finials are a standard design. The plinth of the piers and the railing is bluestone. The fence was constructed after 1865, presumably at the same time, or shortly after the residence behind was built. It is not known who the house was constructed for, but it may be a J. Browning who purchased the land on which the fence stands in 1854. The fence is in excellent condition and retains an excellent degree of integrity.
