Statement of Significance
Architecturally, an uncommon and successful blend of popular suburban styles, complemented by its hillside site and neighbouring houses.
Historically, little is known of Grange but it appears likely that nearby Essendon airport and the war-time air school that was established at Essendon Technical School may have influenced the construction date of this house: of local interest.

HOUSE - Physical Description 1
Symmetrical and gabled, like 56 Baroda Street (qv), the design has nevertheless Moderne overtones with its curved porch and slim wrought-iron balustrade. The stucco, tapestry and clinker brick trim are remnants from the Italian villa style, as is the Ionic colonade remnant from the neo-Greek of the 1920s. The high central gable is however the distinctive element of this elevation presumably influenced by the hillside siting and available views.
Generally externally original.
Later than the adjoining 179 Cashmere Street (1925) but shares the detached siting and set-back also the dominant gabled roof line, textured stucco and rounded window bay.
