Statement of Significance
The house known as 'Edenhope', built c.1910, at 80 Maribyrnong Road, Moonee Ponds. The form, scale, and original external materials and detailing of the house contributes to the significance of the place.
Non-original alterations and additions are not significant.
How is it significant?
The house at 80 Maribyrnong Road, Moonee Ponds is of local historic and architectural significance to Moonee Valley City.
Why is it significant?
It is historically significant for its capacity to demonstrate along with other similar villas in its locale the manner in which the elevated land near the Ascot Vale and Moonee Ponds railway stations attracted prestigious villa residences during the Land Boom and into the twentieth century. (Criterion A)
It is architecturally and aesthetically significant as a fine example of a Federation era bungalow with typical detailing. It makes a notable contribution to the historic character of the Lorne Street and Maribyrnong Road residential precinct. (Criteria E & F)

HOUSE (EDENHOPE) - Physical Description 1
The house known as Edenhope, at 80 Maribyrnong Road, Moonee Ponds is a substantial Federation era bungalow distinguished by its dominant slate roof with terra cotta ridge tiles and fretted verandah frieze redolent of Indian architectural forms. The pitch of the verandah roof adds finesse to the design which incorporates half timbered gable ends, rough cast and red brick chimneys, heavily corbelled, and a faceted bay to the entry. The walls are predominantly rough cast with red brick dressings.
The house is a notable element within the historic Lorne Street residential precinct.
