Residence and Outbuildings - Physical Description 1
DESCRIPTION - HOUSE
The site at 44 Kardinia Street has visual connections with the historic Kardinia House and with the spires of St. Mary's Church, Geelong. This outbuilding, which fronts Riverview Terrace, is set in a predominantly Edwardian and interwar Bungalow streetscape of single storey timber houses. These setbacks are shown on the 1926 GWST Plan of Drainage.4 This Plan of Drainage also shows the location of the outbuilding on the site in relation to the house (see separate Record Sheet). The single storey, weather board, late Federation vernacular styled outbuilding has a gable roof clad in corrugated zincalume. There are no eave overhangs, only recent yet appropriate ogee guttering. An early timber framed four pane attic window is located within the gable facing Riverview Terrace. Original double timber doors with long iron hinges are located on the north facade, while a roller door has been recently introduced on the street facade. There appears to be no early decorative features on the building, as the turned timber finials appear to be a recent addition.
