Statement of Significance
What is significant?
The house, constructed c.1915, at 9 Victoria Street, Korumburra is significant. It is a Federation timber bungalow with a hipped, almost pyramidal roof with gablets that extends to form a return verandah between projecting gables to the front and side. The verandah has turned posts and a ladder frieze with brackets. Typical of the style, a gablet above an angled bay window set intothe corner of the verandah provides a strong diagonal emphasis. There are two tall corbelled brick chimneys with terracotta pots.
Non-original alterations and additions to the house and other buildings on the property are not significant.

The house at9 Victoria Street, Korumburra is of local architectural and aesthetic significance to South Gippsland Shire
Why is it significant?
It is significant as a fine and well-detailed example of a Federation timber bungalow. The hipped, almost pyramidal roof with gablets that extends to form a return verandah between projecting gables to the front and side and the gablet above an angled bay window set into the corner of the verandah that provides a strong diagonal emphasis are all hallmarks of this style. The significance of the place is enhanced by its high degree of external integrity. (Criteria D & E)

HOUSE - Physical Description 1
The house at 9 Victoria Street, Korumburra is a Federation Asymmetrical Villa in weatherboard with a contiguous return verandah and a 45 degree splayed corner to both the corner room and the verandah, which is accentuated further by a 45 degree roof gable above the splayed corner baywindow. Other notable elements include:
- Panelled gable ends with finials.
- Louvred ridge gablets.
- Tall corbelled brick chimneys with a roughcast cove at the cap and terracotta pots.
- Full verandah detaining, including turned posts, ladder frame frieze and fretted brackets.
- Banks of three tall casement windows with pressed metal hoods.Heritage Study and Grading
