FJ WOLFE CORDAGE MANUFACTURER COMPLEX - Physical Description 1
The FJ Wolfe Cordage Manufacturer complex comprises a house (Caretaker/Manager's residence? at No. 399) and the factory at No. 401, which are situated on a deep block.
The factory is a single storey red brick factory with a stepped parapet concealing a corrugated iron roof. A recessed rendered strip beneath the parapet is a sign reading 'F J WOLFE CORDAGE MANUFACTURER'. The square window and doorway on the front facade have rendered lintels and, the window, a rendered sill. The doors are vertical timber. Along the side facade the windows have rendered sills with brick segmental arches above. At the side of the building, a large painted yellow sign reads 'F J Wolfe and Sons Pty Ltd Est 1925 Specialising in Rope & Cordage All Fishing Nets Bait & Tackle 386 4686 386 3894'.
At the rear of the building are a group of timber and corrugated iron sheds which are accessible via a 'right-of-way' off Shamrock Street.
The adjoining residence at 399 Albion Street is an asymmetrical weatherboard bungalow with a gabled corrugated iron roof. The house features scalloped shingles and a louvred vent within the front gable end, tripartite curved bay window with scalloped shingles below, double glass front doors, verandah and awning with projecting rafters. The house is in very poor condition but appears to be very intact. The house is bounded by a low red brick front fence, which post-dates the building.
There is a mature tree (species unknown) at the rear of the house block.FJ WOLFE CORDAGE MANUFACTURER COMPLEX - Physical Conditions
