Statement of Significance
The house was built in the 1840's by Charles Laing, Victoria's first prominent architect and is believed to have been his own home. The house was part of Henry Dendy's original Brighton estate. A typical large Brighton house of the 1870s with some minor modifications dating from about 1900. Its wide symmetrical western facade with inset verandah was originally designed to capture a view of the Bay.
