Statement of Significance
George Jobbins was the architect for this 5 storey brick warehouse which was built by J. Moore in 1887. The front elevation to Lonsdale Street is undistinguished but the side and rear elevations to Merrits Lane and Little Bourke Street respectively are good examples of functional simple brick detailing for warehouses. Various alterations have been done to all elevations at ground floor level. Non-combustible materials were used throughout the structure and it is believed that this is the first building in Australia in which the whole internal construction consists of wrought iron.
