Statement of Significance
Polector was erected in 1882 for John Hunter. The one storey brick structure is composed of a central wing with four bay windows and cast iron verandah around three sides and a rear wing with matching verandah. Both buildings are simply detailed and have hipped slate roofs. There are extensive outbuildings. The cast iron pallisade fence is original.
This is a fine example of the simple double fronted house with central entrance and verandah. It is enhanced by the multitude of bay windows and the extensive verandah and contrasts with the elaborate boom style architecture which dominates the area. It is thus an unusual and essential part of the Parkville area. The intact state of the house, its extensive outbuildings and surrounding fenceare of considerable merit.
