Statement of Significance
Lake View Hotel, Wendouree Parade, Lake Wendouree, is a two storey hotel erected on its corner site c. 1857 for T Gill. A double storey verandah faces part of both facades and is composed of timber columns with iron brackets, baluster panels and frieze. Pilasters face the ground floor and window and door hoods, impost and parapet are other details.
The hotel is an element of note in the streetscape of Wendouree Parade and within the historic townscape of Ballarat. The Lake View is architecturally of note as a fairly late Conservative Classical design given contrast and some distinction by the cast iron verandah over the footpaths. Recent unsympathetic alterations have not detracted from the importance of the building.
The property is in good condition and is reasonably intact, despite various alterations over the years, including the ground floor cast iron fieze and windows and doors.
