Statement of Significance
First licensed in 1857 as the Royal Oak Hotel, this building is believed to have been constructed about that time and has subsequently been renamed the Commercial Hotel after the Commercial Inn, licensed to John Walls in 1852 in Sackville Street. The stone structure is two-storied with prominent chimneys and gabled roof. The hotel building has a double-storied verandah. The building has been variously altered and a drive-in bottle shop has been constructed adjacent to the building on the eastern side. This building is a prominent one in Bank Street.
