What is significant?
The houses at 283-287 Ascot Vale Road, Moonee Ponds built in 1912-13 by Peter Lawson for Harold George Gaston (283), Edgar Leslie Morton (285) and Nicholas Van Iseghen (287)are significant.
How is it significant?
The houses at 283-87 Ascot Vale Road, Moonee Ponds are of local aesthetic significance to the City of Moonee Valley.
Why is it significant?
The house aesthetically important (Criterion E) for its stuccoed enrichment in the Classical Revival manner which contrasts with their otherwise Arts and Crafts influenced domestic character. They add diversity to the urban landscape by virtue of their row house form and are directly comparable with Lawson's similar development of 1912-13 at nos. 202-206 Ascot Vale Road.

HOUSES - Physical Description 1
A row of three richly decorated Federation period dwellings, nos. 183-285 being overpainted, all three being distinguished by their stuccoed pedimented window heads, nos. 283 and 287 being triangular and no. 285 curved. The gable ends are otherwise plain. Cast iron lace decoration to the entry porches is characteristic of the post Federation period.
