Statement of Significance
REVISED STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE, CONTEXT, 2010
What is significant?
The 19th century portable cell lock-up and the surrounding site to the title boundaries (Also see HO122).
How is it significant?
The portable cell lock-up is historically significant to the Shire of Nillumbik
Why is it significant?
The portable cell lock-up is historically significant because there are only a few such structures in existence throughout Victoria and because it was probably moved from another country town to the site and thus illustrates the practice of re-locating institutional buildings on the basis of need (Criteria B & A).
2009 UPDATE
The police station has been DEMOLISHED (new building in 2007) and the portable cell block MOVED to Allwood House, Hurstbridge
