WILLIAMSTOWN NAVAL TORPEDO DEPOT - History
Established in 1870, the Torpedo Depot became the home and training facility for naval vessels, with both the HMV Nelson and Cerberus based here. The Torpedo Depot became the Williamtown Naval Depot in 1885, before it was moved to HMAS Cerberus in Westernport Bay in 1920. The site has historical significance as a defense site and is part of the defense landscape of Melbourne. The site has archaeological significance as it is possible deposits exist under the land fill.
