Statement of Significance
STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE
A charming timber apparently late Edwardian local shop and residence of the 1920s, but possibly incorporating the earlier shop of prior to 1859. It is architecturally significant as characteristic locally of this type, historically as evidence of life in Newtown in the 1920s and locally as a traditional community focus in this part of Newtown for 140 years.
INTACTNESS. Only fair from the 1920s. 1950s alterations include a recessed canted shopfront with coursed rubble stone spandrel, terrazzo paving, cantilevered canopy and double-hung sash windows throughout except under the verandah. The timber picket fence is recent, sidelights have been infilled and the entrance door has been glazed.
CONDITIONS & THREATS Excellent.
