STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE
47 The Esplanade was built for Maurice N Jacobs who was probably the well known Geelong draper and former Mayor. The house is notable for its complex intersection of various forms, the dominant projecting gable and the resultant appearance of great mass. The design is quite unusual in Geelong West. It is of local significance.
POLICY/RECOMMENDATIONS
Grps
Restoration of the original colour scheme, particularly the wooden shingles, would greatly enhance the character of this building

Residence - Physical Description 1
DESCRIPTION:
It is a two storey structure built and substantially covered with rough cast. The hipped and gabled roof is clad in concrete tiles. The design has been considerably influenced by the Bungalow style which was just gaining in popularity when this house was built. It is certainly a clear break away from the Edwardian style which was populat in the first two weeks of the twentieth century. The use of decorative elements is limited to the timber shingles on the gable-end of the upper floor. The complex intersection of various forms is dominated by the projecting gable and the resultant appearance is one of the great mass. This is further emphasized by the use of buttresses. The low fence with squat piers and solid scalloped brickwork compliments the residence
