Memorial Window Description & History
Stained Glass Window at Armadale Uniting [formerly Methodist] Church - Memorial Window Description & History
On 11 December 1921, the Rev. FJ Nance unveiled a memorial window to all those who enlisted for active service during a service conducted by the Reverend Brian Wibberley. A large number of soldiers, nurses and relatives attended the ceremony. The two-light window showed the faithful soldier in armour in the left hand light with the angel presenting him with the Crown of Life in the right hand light. The Australian forces badge was inserted in the lower righthand light, alongside the text ribbon.
The design is attributed to William Wheildon at Brooks, Robinson & Co. who adapted this subject for several war memorial windows across Victoria. The figure of the faithful soldier has similarities withThe Christian made by the same firm for Wesley Church, Lonsdale Street, Melbourne.
