Statement of Significance
"Renfrew" at 20 Aberfeldie Street, Essendon, was built in 1891 for John Millar Johnston. It is important as a surviving villa representative of the development spawned by the"Aberfeldie Estate" subdivision of 1888 and compares with other similar houses in this respect (Criterion A). This importance is enhanced by the intact state of "Renfrew".

HOUSE (RENFREW) - Physical Description 1
A late Victorian Italianate bi-chrome asymmetrical villa with white tuck pointed body bricks on a bluestone plinth and with unpainted frieze to the eaves. The concave comer cast iron posted verandah has an unusual cast iron frieze with lily motifs and there are niches to the south walls.
